Qualified! Amateur World Duathlon Champs!

I’m happy to announce I will be representing Canada at the Amateur Duathlon World Championships!  I will be aiming for the Age Group 25-29 title in the heart of Canada’s capital city of Ottawa this coming August. It’s an ambitious goal to target the win but initially so was qualifying!

On the menu is the standard duathlon distances of a 10km run, 40km bike, and a 5km run. The course will be in the heart of downtown Ottawa and will pass by the stunning parliament buildings and venture into the province of Quebec using the bridges over the Ottawa River.

Not only is it exciting to compete at a world level on home soil but it will be amazing to compete in the city where I completed my undergraduate degree.  I always tell people I started cycling in South Africa, which is primarily true, but I actually bought my first bike while I was studying at Carleton University.  I rode it on the weekends during the summer months and, back then, a 30km ride was a big ask. I also ran occasionally but an 6km run was as farthest my legs ever carried me. From rookie to Worlds, hard work has changed all of that.

I’ve come a long way, and collected the tan lines to prove it, but all I can see right now is a lot of racing, long hours in the saddle, and countless sprint training sessions and I can’t wait! To track my progress in the lead up to World Amateurs, I will continue to post stories about my training and racing. I’ve got an ambitious goal and I will need all the support I can get, so stay tuned!
